Most Popular #MarketingMonday Videos… So Far

September 6, 2017 by William Thompson Leave a Comment

We are in high spirits this week: Hashtagitude is celebrating our six-month celebration of #MarketingMonday! Earlier in the week, we celebrated with a 30-minute Q&A on Facebook Live. Over the last several months we have delivered interesting weekly topics in the realm of digital marketing and technology as a whole: automation, online safety, net neutrality, and fake news.

In honor of these six months, we have dedicated this blog post to pat ourselves on the back. We compiled the five most watched #MM videos, sprinkled with dialogue between Helene and me. Without further ado, let’s get started.

Back in late February, Helene had the idea of doing a weekly show to highlight not only our agency’s expertise, but to also (personally) help her overcome her fear of being on camera. As you’ll see with the videos below, Helene has become a lot comfortable on camera, and our topics have become more refined. Enjoy this compilation!

What is the Shadow Ban?

A shadow ban occurs when a social media user is blocked from discovery without the user’s knowledge. Shadow bans, or stealth and ghost bans, are not limited to one social media platform. However, this #MM video focused specifically on Instagram. Since shadow bans help dissuade the use of spam, “gray area” automation tools, and hateful content, we still hold the same opinions. Shadow bans, as of now, are used to create a genuine, engaged community online.

The Trouble with Chatbots

Basically, a lot can wrong with chatbots. Chatbots are not just cheap time savers, they are meant to simulate a human interaction. Consequently, low performing chatbots inspired the discussion. We still have a lot of the same grievances proclaimed in this video: businesses of all shapes and sizes are failing with this technology because they’re essentially not reading the whole manual. We believe that chatbots can be incredible marketing tools, but only with the correct strategy behind it.

Marketing Yourself - What’s in a Job Title?

Our CEO Helene has a curious pet peeve: people who declare themselves a “Social Media Guru”, “Content Evangelist”, or “Engineering Ninja”. Although Helene and I agree that these names can be fun, we disagree on their reception in the professional world. We are still at odds on the issue and its effects on one’s career. My thoughts haven’t changed, ability will trump a title although it could deter potential employers. On the other hand- Helene still detests it. Most of the evidence was anecdotal. However, we did come across some interesting findings, which you can learn about in the video above.

WeChat’s Social Monopoly: Foreshadow of Facebook

A topic that opened our eyes to the enormous potential of social media (or Big Brother?): the Chinese messaging app WeChat looks to be the blueprint of social monopolies. WeChat is an app that encompasses payment services, social media, e-commerce, instant messaging, etc. The technology is impressive but it still has Helene and me spooked. We both think that Facebook is on the same trajectory, since they have been steadily merging with other companies for the past several years. We think WeChat offers an extremely interesting future, however concerning that might be.

Tips & Tricks for Social Media Platforms

Our first episode!!! March 6th signaled the beginning of #MM. Needless to say, Helene has gotten better in front of the camera. The video offered two tips for three different social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter). The hints were technical and stand true to this day.

We have come a long way since our first video on March 6th. We look forward to another six months (and beyond!) full of fun and informative content. Is there anything you would like us to cover in our upcoming videos? Leave a comment below or write us a personal message. There is so much more to discover online, join us every Monday at 2pm Mountain Time/4pm Eastern Time on Facebook Live to enjoy the ride!
